B Roosevelt read the following poetry first sa saying by way of explanation The charming verses which I am I about to read you were suggested by a poem I happened to see In the New NewYork I York Sun This poem was an attempt to put Into verse an expression of well well- merited admiration of th the ample and substantial charms of the far fair maidens I of Dutch New York as exemplified Inthe in inthe the person of Miss 1 Susan Van But while I have no fault to find tind with the poem and especially with Us Its scope and purpose 1 saw at once that the writer had not had the pleasure of a personal acquaintance with the charmIng charmIng charm charm- Ing girl whom he had selected as an ex ex- ample I knew her well naturally The president of the Holland society Is expected expected ex ex- to know all the beautiful Dutch girls and when I was your president I never failed In any of my duties You can see her picture on the menu What Is more I was acquainted with the romance lomance of her life and that is re recorded recorded re- re corded embalmed and immortalized ed In Inthe Inthe the beautiful verses I shall now read to you which are aie entitled TIlE THE LOVES LOYES OF GEORGIE VAN HOBSEN HOB HOB- HOBSEN SEN AND SUSIE VAN GeorgIe sat on the charms of sweet Susan Though the office was misty and dim Her round cheeks so rosy her full waist so cosy Had raised liveliest fancies In himI himI him I love you dear Susan whispered Georgia Geor- Geor glo gia Van Hoesen Next Net day dM as out walking they go Beyond all ex without power of repression And Susan replied Is dat zoo zoo I shall die dearest Susan should you be This offer which is far from pro forma not obiter diction but firmest conviction conviction con con- For Georgie was trained to the law You are so 0 my heart Ive I've been I love you from caput to toe Ive I've money dear Susan enough for a The maid cried aloud Is dat zoo zoo Ho He said without Ick moet Je maar Kussen With his arm round her amplified waist I adore you sweet Susan so dont don't keep me crus In But give me your answer In haste Your hand I would sue for Im I'm just your own suitor For suing was Georgies Georgie's chief trade Dear sweet little Susan Im I'm a convert to fusion Is dat zoo softly whispered the maid Now Susan Is suing to Georgies Georgie's undoing For Georgie alas proved untrue And deeply hes he's ruing that saddest days day's doing And wishes hed he'd never sued Sue When he hears from his Susan hes he's far from On the verdict shell she'll certainly get For a Dutch girl like Uke Susan works the jurys jury's confusion And will win a big Judgment you bet This brings us to the end of my beautiful beautiful beau beau- verses but only to the saddest part of this romantic history for It winds up as all such thrilling tales should in inthe inthe the most mournful manner that manner that is in ina ina a conundrum Wh When n Susan Van D esen sued Georgie Van Hoesen for breach I of promise of marriage and recovered a verdict of how did he escape payment Give it up Threw Sue aside
