2 MEN KILLED BY HUGE BEAR ELLSWORTH Me Oct 15 UP IFA p- p pA A captive pound bear ma mangled and killed two men at the Whistler Whistle Inn r near here today The animal went berserk as George Langley Ingley proprietor of the inn entered a a. cage to give it Its breakfast Langley's helper was killed as he went to his employers employer's rescue were unable to learn his identity immediately There were no witnesses to the killings Mrs Langley had bad gone to Bangor for the day Passing on a truck George A. A Merrill of Bangor a a. telephone company company com corn pany noticed the bear lying over the body of ot one of the men and Joseph Willette a neighbor quickly shot the animal with a rifle Sheriff Harold Hodgkins arrived soon afterward and shot another bear trying fiercely to get out of its pen Police believed the enraged bear bushed the year old Langley through the pen door as he be entered with food As the animal attacked Langley his bis assistant apparently struck the bear with a a. shovel and he in turn met mat death The bodies of both men were torn and their limbs broken
