Show I f Pl 1 4 I If I hl PRANK FRANK 1 K BAKER BAKE Unless ri esS the die Th Thanksgiving d day y game between Ut Utah h i and 2nd qt Utah unive university sity here proves a thriller the theA A 1 season o. o will be d by fans ans as one f pf f the most uninteresting college campaigns this state has r endured nd in a long time I V. 1 7 As the campaign comes to the final game the colleges still haven produced a single game of the thel heart grip heart gripping ing tr thrill thrill- i studded variety which sends the fans away to talk about with 4 q quickening pulse every time the game is recalled 2 r 2 In fa fact t there were less than u n a half dozen games on the Schedule which gave promise of being heng that kind of g game e. e One I Utah-Colorado Utah and the blizzard spoiled oi them was the game that that so far as fan entertainment was concerned Another was the Utah-Denver Utah game and Utah was in spectacular form while I D. D U. U was so tense it was badly ou outclassed I 1 Result A brilliant dem demonstration by the Ute Utes but n nevertheless lopsided a game I 1 13 12 Brigham Young Colorado colleges college's victory over 9 university at Provo was the seasons season's closest tilt but it was a for all of its closeness of s' s s comparatively drab attraction score and lost much opportunity for glamorous appeal because it was between two of the seasons season's less successful y teams The Cougars were in the throes of oC a letdown after a af a 1 f surprising demonstration of strength the week before ti i against Greeley State and they failed to sparkle over any fl f sustained period 4 Denver's disappointment the snowstorm which a the Utah-Colorado Utah game were entirely beyond the I of Utah college officials of course but they proved doubly disappointing inasmuch as the schools had hadnot not hot not arranged more at attractive sch schedules dules in the first place h Spectacular games in the two mentioned attractions probably would have made fans forgetful that that more mor high ligh grade football was not scheduled in In the stadium here this season s r X Folks trying to compare the Utes and for their forthcoming conflict must not place too much reliance in the won wont t nI l lost iest column for it hardly gives a true perspective of the rival ival strengths The conference standings show that have won five ames out of six thereby tying De Denver for second place and hat Utah has won four out of five while C. C U. U has taken all four pf p ot its games It must be remembered however that gained one victory over B. B Y YU U. U which has lost four of its seven games that another nother win came over Montana State which has has has' taken only one rne ne game in six and that from B. B Y U. U which fumbled 10 times In losing that hat the third victory came cam against Colorado Mines which went scoreless for six games game before beating Western State the conference doormat 20 0 last week that the fourth win was wast t over ver Wyoming which which- lost four of its six games and finally that that its ts only substantial victim was Colorado State Agi es which is having its poorest season h s since nce 19 1917 7 I. I J rr MC z In other words gained their five live victories ov over r j foes loes which collectively have won but nine Dine of their 32 ga games e or moved along at a mere pace f I trust trust this has not been construed as a mere attempt to cheapen the Aggie victories My ly point is that the victories t alone are no proof of the being a match for Utah i because in several cases the Logan team did not have hae to toj j tr try so extremely hard to Jo win I believe they could have haye been 4 r a considerably weaker team than the they are and still chalked t up t the h e same victories t orles i 6 Instead of trying frying to estimate the true Aggie strength in n these victories in wh which ch the margin of triumph was dependent upon how hard the team worked I am inclined tb h see the best indication of Aggie strength in their defeat at t Denver or possibly the ther theone r one exception of the Colorado State conflict i 2 The had to invade the D. D U. U stronghold yet they played the keyed Pioneers on even terms so far ar as ground gaining was concerned before finally losing by iby a touchdown f t 4 1 D. D U. U gave all it had ad to win and the attempt to kep again the following Saturday for Utah undoubtedly goes Ta a long way ay toward c explaining why the Pioneers were a disappointment in In their trip to Salt Lake City I Another encouraging angle from the Aggie standpoint is the fact ct that t at both bolh Utah and the Logan crew gained two two-tou two Victories over Colorado State The Utes beat B. B Y U. U 32 0 and ande the he e turned the trick 27 0 both rolling up 20 0 Ie leads ds at at the half half And like the Utah picked up an easy win over Montana State |
