Show I HOW TABBY TABBY I WAS CURED Tabby was was a a. street cat and one day she wand wandered red a long way from the I city where she had always lived to a farmhouse in the country Now T Tabby had always stolen all she ever had and when the farmers farmer's little girl girl- picked girl picked up poor Tabby she scratched and tried to run away The little girl know how to hold her without being scratched and she her into th the kitchen kitchen and gave Tabby a a. saucer of milk Tabby had nev never r in all her life Ute had any milk given to her She had tasted it and liked it for she had tipped over many milk botU bottles s and then lapped up the milk but to have it given to her Tabby not could bel beleve ve was possible So she r ran n under a chair and waited until the little little girl went Into the pantry pantry pantry pan pan- try and th then n Tabby darted for the saucer and drank the milk almost atone atone at atone one lap That night Tabby was given Iven a place to sleep In inthe the kitchen on a soft piece of blanket b but t Tabby had never slept In the house and she tried to get out thinking that something bad surely would happen to her het if she stayed in in- in doors So when the house was still Tabby was still awake looking for a place of escape while and and while she was looking lookin she got into the pantry and on a shelf Of course she smelled something good and Tabby poked her nose around until she found the dish that held It She poked off the cover and there she found a piece of chicken Tabby did not know what it was but she knew It was good to eat and she ate it and then she tried harder than be before before before be- be fore to get out of doors By Bv and by she found the pantry window which h was open and out she jumped into the yard and crawled under the steps and went to sleep Bleep In the morning the little Utne girl found the cook very angry and looking for Cor Tabby with a stick in her hand but the little girl beg begged ed so hard that the cook said she would not punish Tabby but that If she ever stole anything again she would certainly whip her That morning when Tabby crawled out from under the steps the little girl r-Irl I was palling calling and had a saucer of milk and cream and after a while Tabby went to her and drank the milk but she kept one eye on the door of the house for she knew she l had ad stolen thenice thenice the thenice nice supper she had late in the night and she expected expect d to be whipped for it But Tabby went to sleep p in the sun and no one punished her and at dinner dinner dinner din din- ner time she was given more milk and again she went to sleep Another saucer of milk at night made Tabby feel she was liked very much by the little girl and she let her take her In her arms without trying to scratch her Then the little girl took tool Tabby in inthe inthe inthe the house and put a red ribbon loosely around her neck and Tabby began to feel quite important sue ne washed her face and paws and slicked up her black coat until she looked quite like a well bred cat Then she took Tabby to the closet door and shook her finger at Tabby No you must not go In n there she cautioned Tabby you must go to sleep and catch mice mic If It you see any any Of course Tabby did not understand what the little girl said but she knew she was not to go into the pantry be because because because be- be cause the door was closed that night and she could not get in dO D TABBY BY TO TrEE a T wi o The little girl put a saucer of milk by Tabby's bed so if she was hungry she would not have to hunt tot for something something something some some- thing to eat After a while the little girl coaxed the cook to leave the pantry pantry door door open at night and Tabby did not steal athing athing a athing thing and after a while tote HIe saucer of milk was not put by her bed at night and Tabb Tabby began to catch the mice that ran about sometimes and bothered the cook nibbling things in the pantry Tabby probably reasoned that she was treated well Uia fat she had a good good- home and th that t she was vas as much better of T than when she stole her Tier food so she helped all she could by keeping the house free of mice to repay for all the kindness she had shown to her and she lived to a good old age a comfortable comfort comfortable able happy cat and all because the ther little girl was kind to Tabby and did dill not whip her at the beginning C Copyright 1916 by th the tho McClure re Newspaper Syndicate New York City |
