W Arnoldson head of the department of of modern languages died late yesterday yesterday yesterday yester yester- day afternoon following an operation at a local hospital I Dr Arnoldson was one of the leading leading lead lead- ing lug linguists and educators of the state He had been at the University of Utah for sixteen years and the news of ot his death came as a distinct shock to hundreds of former students and friends He was born In Sweden in 1871 and received his early education in that country Later he vl visited France Germany England and Spain spend ing lug some time in each country and studying the four different languages While still sun a young man he be received his B. B A. A degree at Monmouth in I Illinois He came to the University of Utah 1 I shortly after graduation and had been here ever since Dr Arnoldson was wasa a a. son of K B. B Arnoldson one of the I ablest scholars and statesmen in Scandinavia He inherited his ardent love of peace from his father and wrote many able contributions to the tl international peace literature of the tle day At the conclusion of advanced study In Chicago university last summer ho he was granted a doctor of philosophy degree Two theses which attracted much attention among educators were Comp Comparative Com Corn p Philology of the German I Language written in German and andI I A A Study of the Names of ot Parts of the Human Body written In Swedish Class work at the university will I be suspended Friday when there will be special exercises in his honor Surviving Dr Arnoldson are his former wife wIre a daughter Astrid Arnoldson Arnoldson Arnoldson Ar- Ar Ar 1 8 years of age who resides I in Chicago a sister Mrs Carl EBon Elion of ot Galva Ill and six sisters who live in Sweden |
