ERNEST "BALDY" SIMKINS. a native of Mesa, Ariz., graduate from Arizona's famous Mesa athletic ath-letic plant high school, where he, too, contributed to the school's prestige by annexing 16 major athletic awards in four years. In 1927 Baldy entered University of Utah, following three highly successful suc-cessful years . at Arizona State Junior college, where he gained letters in football, basketball and baseball. While at the "U of U" Baldy was named an official all-conference tackle and listed by sDorts writers on the all-Amer- ican football roll in 1928 and '29. Simkins contracted to coach at Ogden high school in 1930, where he remained until the spring of '35. In that year he went to Wyoming Wyo-ming to try ranching. In March, 1941, Simkins went to work for the Utah Copper company. He stands six-foot three-inches, weighs 210 pounds, has four dependents-and lives in Salt Lake City. Blackfoot, Idaho, is the birthplace birth-place of JOE "AIRMAIL" FRISCIL yesterday's famous football-passing star at Bingham high school. Joe participated in football, foot-ball, basketball and tennis while attending the local high school and was named on the 1938 all-state all-state football club as halfback. In 1939 he enrolled at the U of U where he picked up the football reins again and was given giv-en the moniker of "Special Delivery" De-livery" Frisch by fans, coaches and players. He played outstanding outstand-ing baseball on Bailey J. Santis-tevan's Santis-tevan's American Letrion and high school championship teams. At the present time Joe is connected con-nected with the Utah Copper company at Bingham, where he and his brido make their home. Don't forget the February 7 GemmeLl club smoker. The headline head-line professional boxing event will feature Ivan Bland, 170 pounds, pitted against Gene Pearce, 175 pounds, for the state light heavyweight title. Bingham's Bing-ham's Joe Espinosa, Roy Mon-toya Mon-toya and Calvin Miller, Inter-mountain Inter-mountain AAU champs, will divide di-vide honors in headlining the amateur boxing events. They will be matched against amateur boxers from Logan. Hy Sharman, Kenny Mayne, Floyd Hanson and Wildcat Mc-Cann Mc-Cann are slated to furnish the wrestling entertainment.
