To s stem steni m any possible physical violence e the governor called in the national guard and the region has Seen been in a state of military mili miU- tary rule Advocates of physical violence resent the presence of oC the military Being dominated more or less by a superior force and a superior su superior su- su perlor strength they insult the soldiery and the flag which stands behind it and make threats of reprisal l which if put into action would be downright treason For humanitarian re reasons sons at least all sympathy goes out to anyone who is compelled com corn to work at low wages in an unsanitary or unhealthful environment But in attempting to foment anarchy the leaders of t the lC miners may very easily produce far worse conditions than now exist The state has the power to punish the makers of treasonable threats just as it hast has t the e power to suppress the threatened action |
