Show DRIVERS ORDERED TO USE CHAINS City council members are considering con-sidering a problem which they regard as important from the standpoint of public safety: what to do with vehicles which stall on icy roads and block or completely com-pletely congest traffic. Wednesday night it was suggested sug-gested that the city provide a portable por-table sign to be erected at the city limits on morning when the road is icy and slick which will instruct all drivers to put chains on before attempting to drive up Main street. In the 'event that traffic is blocked and an early morning fire is reported, which would not be unlikely or even very unusual, it would be impossible for firemen fire-men and equipment to reach the scene in time to prevent disaster disas-ter A city ordinance which prohibits pro-hibits the blocking of traffic is considered as giving local officers offi-cers sufficient authority to instruct in-struct drivers to use chains. Reported also at Wednesday's meeting was the damage to fence and home of Mrs. Anna Johnson, 106 Carr Fork, by the county snow plow which was clearing roads for the city following Monday's Mon-day's storm. . o - |
