Show VOTERS SHOULD CAST BALLOTS IN OWNDISTRICT Following the city election of last November and at the request re-quest of pei-sons whose votes were challenged, an investigation investiga-tion of their particular problem was begun by Alvin Keddington, Salt Lake county clerk, who last night reported on his findings and action that he has taken to date. Against a backdrop of confusion confu-sion and vigorously stated differences dif-ferences of opinion, the issue which presented itself for clarification clari-fication by county officials was reduced to one consideration: is a duly registered voter who has business and interest in a community com-munity in which he formerly resided re-sided and voted the right to continue con-tinue voting in that community after he removes his residence to another community? Wednesday night County Clerk Keddington and his aid, Jacob Weiler, both of Salt Lake City, paid a surprise visit to Bingham city council and explained to the officials and City Attorney Elliott El-liott W. Evans and Alvin Hall, city treasurer, that a voter should cast his ballot within the district in which he has his home and that the county will prevent such instances from arising in future elections by having registration books of the 242 voting districts within the county checked and rocopied to eliminate names of all "orsons who have left the districts. The new registration lists, which will be compiled at a cost exceeding $5,000, will be completed com-pleted before registration date of the coming election. The same procedure that has been followed in Bingham, that of having a local committee go over registration lists and check those names which should be removed, re-moved, is being followed in other oth-er districts of the county, Mr. Keddington explained. Other names to be removed as a matter of routine, will be those of voters vo-ters who failed to vote in the ' last two elections. Those who have left districts to enter armed arm-ed services will not have their -names removed from registration registra-tion lists. . |
