Show SENATORIAL PBOSl'ECTS. IfEwS from South Dakota is not very promising to tho Itepublicans. It seems that the Democrats, Inde-pmdents Inde-pmdents and Fusionists on joint ballot in the Legislature, will make a tie w ith tbe Bejiubllcanz. Should they unite it will be vary difficult to elect Moody, the Republican candidate, can-didate, and it is thought probable that Democrat and an Independent may gain the election. This would be a big LIow to tbe party that made the Dakotas States, and would illustrate, illus-trate, once more, how "mighty on-sartin" on-sartin" is politics. Our old friend Bartlett Tripp is spoken of very prominently as a Democratic candidate candi-date for the Senatorship, and Aion-zo Aion-zo Wardell appears to be the Independent Inde-pendent favorite. From Chicago comes the tidings that tbe Itepublicans have made a blunder in the Bock Island district, by electing to the Legislature W. C. Collins, who, it is said, has not been a resident of the State of Illinois for the period required bylaw. If this is correct, the Itepublicans will lose one vote iu tho election for United Stales Senator, and on a joint ballot give a bare mnjority to the Democrats. These chanccSj with ctirtLt arc imminent, would narrow down the Republican mijority in the Senate and raise the hopes of the Democracy as to ultimate entire control of the Government. We give tbe news and the probabilities for what they are worth. |
