The return of the funds by Mr. Backman officially winds up the celebration responsibilities of the Centennial commission. More than $22,000 above the half-million dollar refund remains to defray delayed Centennial expenses. Mr. Backman received the revolving re-volving fund after guaranteeing to the 1947 legislature that it would be returned intact at the end of the Days of '47 celebration. Despite bad weather and a $250,000 "loss" incurred at the Centennial exposition at the state fairgrounds, sparkling successes such as "Promised Valley" furnished fur-nished ample return revenue to stabilize the fund. |
