Show FISHLXG SEASON FOR 1948 TO OPEN JUNE 12 The Utah fishing season for 1948 will open June 12 and will close October 3, fishing hours to be from 5:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.! daily, it was announced by Game Director Ross Leonard following the quarterly session of the Utah ; Fish and Game Commission. Daily bag limits for trout in Utah will remain the same as in 1947 15 fish or seven pounds andor one fish, whichever is caught first. The possession limit this year will be cut in half and will become the same as the daily bag take. The opening dates as set by the five-man commission this week apply to the general opening. The high Uintah lakes and streams will open as usual after the native spawning run is finished July 1. Other special openings will be covered by state proclamations. Bass season will begin May 15 and end October 3. These dates also apply to Perch and Sunfish. Limits on bass will be the same as for trout, except that it is unlawful un-lawful to keep bass under ten inches. Minimum length for trout is seven inches as always. The big reduction in the possession pos-session limit by the commission was based on two factors-i-con-servation and law enforcement, according ac-cording to Mr. Leonard. The rapidly increasing pressure on Utah's limited fishing waters has made it necessary to curtail possession pos-session limits in an effort to spread the fish supply to a greater number of fishermen It is also ex- pected that the cutting of the possession limit will eliminate many of the law enforcement problems in the higher lakes where it has been claimed that - daily catches of 30 fish have been made and held out as possession limits, while fishing continued. |
