Show j BYU PROFESSOR RECOGNIZED OVER BROADCAST ; LeRoy J. Robertson, BYU pro- ' feasor, was officially recognized j as a great musician Sunday night J over a nation-wide broadcast orig-I orig-I I inating in Detroit, j His "Trilogy" received its world premiere from the Detroit symphony sym-phony orchestra and Robertson, with a simplicity and dignity which brought a thrill of pride to ' everyone listening who knew him, , received a $25,000 check for his work. It was the greatest amount I of money ever received in a single f award for a symphonic composition composi-tion a veritable fortune compared com-pared to the first, and often final, rewards received by Mozart, Schubert Schu-bert and others of the world's greatest composers. As he received the check, Robertson Rob-ertson said: "I only wish this could have fallen into the hands of Mozart or Schubert." As to Robertson's "Trilogy," a rather surprising reaction was forthcoming today from people avorage people with no particular taste or musical learning who heard it last night. Robertson himself in recent weeks has told people "they wouldn't like it," and the impression grew that the work j was so difficult and involved only I a musicologist would truly appre-I appre-I ciate it. |
