Show WAA CONTRIBUTES SURPLUS SUITS TO NEEDY INDIANS One hundred eleven war surplus wool flying suits, donated by War Assets Administration, were recently re-cently transferred by officials of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the suffering Navajos, to help the Indians' fight against privation and cold. The garments, manufactured as electrically heated flying suits, are considered obsolete for their original orig-inal purpose, but excellent as cold weather protection without the electrical feature. Each suit is composed of a blue all-wool outer shell with an inner cloth lining. WAA officials in Henderson (near Las Vegas), Nevada, located lo-cated the flying clothing in their inventory and noted that the equipment equip-ment was obsolete for its original purpose and therefore eligible for donation to an accredited charitable chari-table organization under WAA Regulation 19. (The WAA regulation provides that surplus materials which have lost their commercial value for purposes for which originally intended in-tended may be donated to acceptable accept-able donnees for charity. The donnee must certify that the material ma-terial will not be resold for profit). pro-fit). Las Vegas officials of the LDS Church, already actively engaged in the campaign to bring relief to the suffering Navajos, were contacted con-tacted and agreed to accept the surplus flight clothing and deliver it to the Indians. |
