Show EASTERN UTAH TO BECOME AN IMPORTANT AREA Gilsonite, rock asphalt and oil resources of the Vernal region promise tremendous prosperity for eastern Utah, declared Gov. Herbert B. Maw following a tour of the Uintah Basin. Ora Bundy, chairman of the Dep. of Publicity and Industrial Development and President of the National Reclamation Association who accompanied Gov. Maw, said that within the next few years, eastern Utah will become one of the most important industrial areas in the west. During the visit at Vernal, Gov. Maw recommended immediate construction of a $200,000 natural science museum and a paved access ac-cess road to the gilsonite mine at Bonanza. The Barber Asphalt Sales Co. is planning expenditures of $3 million for expansion of the mine. Utah's "Gilsonite" is the purest form of hydro-carbon known to man. It is found in seams in rock asphalt. It is a black organic compound from which is manufactured manu-factured marine paints, enamels, , Japans, varnish, roofing paper, insulation; it combines readily with rubber for the manufacture of tires. Vernal's asphalt beds are said to extend 65 miles and same seams of gilsonite are eight miles long. Philosophers are inclined to believe be-lieve that time is only the artificial artific-ial invention of man. |
