Dist. i UFJVC Is Divided I At Lehi Meet Seven new clubs were accepted into the First district of Utah Federation of Women's club at their spring meeting Saturday in Lehi, but the proposed division of the district was delayed until next year. More than 300 club women attended the convention held in the Lehi Second ward chapel as guests of Lehi clubwomen. A large rep-resenation rep-resenation from practically every federated club in Springville attended at-tended the meet. Mrs. Preston G. Hughes, Spanish Span-ish Fork, state director, introduced the new clubs and gave a report on activities. Other reports were given by Mrs. Victor J. Bird, Provo, Pro-vo, district treasurer, and Mrs. Claude Ashworth, Provo, chairman chair-man of the district's student loan committee. Following the general session at 10 a. m., with Mrs. William L.-Worlton, L.-Worlton, convention chairman, presiding, the group divided for department work. Postwar planning, plan-ning, youth conservation, public welfare, drama and literature, art, international relations, American homes, music, education and citizenship citi-zenship and peace service. At noon the visitors were guests of the Lehi club at a luncheon in the Lehi L.D.S. tabernacle. A musical mus-ical program was presented. Mrs. Sterling M. Ercanbrack, state federation president, urged her fellow clubwomen to dress up their communities for the 1947 1 Cenennial by improving their individual in-dividual homes first and then start judging objectively what the community com-munity needs. Clubwomen were admonished by Mrs. Ercanbrack to observe three things in their daily lives. First, keep our hearthstone bright, second, sec-ond, be ready with a helping hand to aid the community and third, to do our part as a good citizen by fostering spiritually and character char-acter education. "In short," the speaker said, "we should serve our home, our community and love and respect our God." The guest speaker, Judge Reva Beck Bosone, Salt Lake City, used - as her text, "Youth At the Sunrise Sun-rise of a New Era." Judge Bosone declared "the sun has set on re-jgious re-jgious and scientific intolerance." We are our brothers' keepers. This fact has been forced upon us by the catastrophic war just concluded. conclud-ed. The invitation of Provo to be the host city for the 1947 convention conven-tion was accepted. The main fea-Ure fea-Ure of business was the division of the district, the biggest in the state. The division, however, will not become effective until the spring meeing of 1947 when two lull sets of officers will be elected for the districts. The two districts dis-tricts will include on the north, all chJbs from Lehi to Provo, inclusive, inclu-sive, and on the south, Springville to Nephi. |
