Show UTAH TAXPAYER POINTS TO TAX INCREASE jport Indicates lTth Count' Taxes Are Raised From 6 to 8 Mills The September-November Issue 0 the Utah Taxpayer which Is jUSt off the press shows the comparative com-parative levies for 1944 and 1945 for every taxing unit in the state. The information presented is rather rath-er startling for it is indicated that increase in property taxes total $2,800,000, or 14 per cent increase over the preceding year. It is noted that $1,300,000 of the increase is a result of substantial sub-stantial increases in school levies. It is pointed out that this jump is made in the face of increased state school appropriations, so that the over-all picture reflects approximately 24.8 per cent advance ad-vance over last year. The return for the first time in three years of the general fund levies Increases In-creases the property tax by some 740,000 or 1.1 mills. Aside from levies for building reserves the county taxes remained nearly the same as for the preceding year. Attention is called to the condition con-dition that 97 per cent of all property prop-erty taxes are spent by local jurisdictions jur-isdictions and if for any reason the taxpayer is dissatisfied with the tax burden, he has but to contact his own local officials and voice his objections. In so far as Utah county Is concerned the levy was raised from 6 to 8 mills, or by 33 per cent. This does not mean, however, how-ever, that the total taxes charged will be increased that much for there was a decrease in the assessed as-sessed valuation in the county. Then for Provo city it is noted that the over-all levy jumped from 44.4 mills to( 54 mills or 9.6. The resulting tax burden increase Is 27 per cent. |
