New Vegetable Plant Scheduled To Begin Operation Soon Work Being Rushed To Completion For Plant Opening In Middle Or Last Of August; Vegetable Washing Machinery Being Installed Scheduled to begin operation during the middle or latter lat-ter part of August, Springville's new $50,000 vegetable packing plant is fast nearing completion, it was announced this week. Located on a five-acre tract of land which was part of the John S. Boyer farm, the plant is being built by the Utah Celery Cooperative Coopera-tive of which John W. Gerber of American Fork is general manager. mana-ger. The new industrial concern is owned and will be operated by the Vegetable Growers Cooperative which takes in considerable territory. terri-tory. Carl Alleman of this city is vice-president of the Cooperative. The plant will process vegetables vegeta-bles grown in the entire area, from Provo on the north to Payson on the south. Approximately seventy acres of celery in this vicinity has been contracted in addition to some fifty acres of onions, thirty acres of cabbages as well as a -large amount of potatoes and other vegetable veg-etable crops. . , As facilities for the handling of vegetables are in complete operation opera-tion at the plant, an increased acreage of all vegetables is expected expect-ed by the cooperative.
