Show LOCAL CAP FLIGHT WINS THIRD IN MARCHING CONTEST The Springville flight of C A P took third place and . received a $5 prize in a marching contest Monday night, sponsored by the Provo CAP squadron in the Provo Pro-vo high school gymnasium. Cadets of the Price CAP flight were awarded first prize of $10. Second prize of $7.50 was won by the Provo First flight. Lt. Deal Mendenhall, commanding command-ing officer of the Provo squadron, was in charge of the contest, in which more than 200 CAP cadets and officers participated. Other flights in the Provo sqadron which entered marching units were American Am-erican Fork, Spanish Fork, Pay-son, Pay-son, Mt. Pleasant and Provo Second Sec-ond flight. Judges of the contest were Capt. Alma E. Wright, Lt. Karl Scherer and Lt. George T. Adams, all officers offi-cers of the Provo units of Utah state guard. Special guests included in-cluded Maj. C. Le Roy Jensen, Utah CAP wing supply officer; Lt. Eunice Naylor, wing training officer, and Lt. E. Woodrow Walton, Wal-ton, wing adjutant, all of Salt Lake City. Capt. Merrill Christopherson of Provo, commander of the southern CAP group, has challenged flights of the northern group to a state-wide marching contest, suggesting that it be conducted May 20 at the Salt Lake City municipal airport. |
