Show Willis Strong To Celebrate 8oth Birthday Willis Strong, lifelong resident of Springville, is eighty years old today and in his honor a family dinner will be given this evening by Mrs. Strong, at their home. Covers will be laid for approximately approxi-mately twenty relatives, including their son, Guy Strong, who has recently returned home from the Navy, and a grandson, Lamar Averett, also home from the Navy. Mr. Strong was born in this city on Jan. 3, 1866, a son of pioneers, pio-neers, Ozias and Elizabeth Men-denhall Men-denhall Strong. He married Lucy Clyde May 2, 1888, in the Logan tsmple. She died, and in 1903, he married Irene Rowland, in the Manti temple. tem-ple. He has always been an ardent church worker. Early in his life, he served as counselor to two First ward bishops, and in recent years, he has been in charge of the Fourth ward High Priests. He has done considerable genealogy work and has been a ward teacher teach-er for many years. He has two daughters, Mrs. Theo Thorpe and Mrs. Bessie Averett, Av-erett, by the first marriage, and two sons and a daughter, Mrs. Fay John of Battle Creek, Nev., and Ted and Guy Strong, Springville; Spring-ville; also fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. |
