Nicholas Bird of Hollywood, Calif., has visited the past three weeks with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Bird in this city. Miss Carol Bird has returned to her home following a month's visit with her sister, Mrs. F. S. Huish and family at Berkeley, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Baker had as their guests last week, Professor Pro-fessor R. E. Marsell of the University Uni-versity of Utah, his wife and their three daughters, Carol, Rae and LuGene, Salt Lake City. Oscar M. Cragun of Las Vegas, Nev., visited the past week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Cragun. His daughters, Patsy Ruth, Connie Rae and Rose Lee, who have been visiting with their grandparents, and other relatives in Utah, accompanied him on their return home Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald N. Sprat-ling Sprat-ling from Holiday were guests of Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Baker in this city Tuesday. Keith Ottesen, son of Dr. and Mrs. L. E. Ottesen, has returned home from the naval station at Seattle, Washington. He has been given a discharge following 14 months service. He called at the Herald office this week to express his thanks for the home town paper, which he stated has been coming to him regularly since he went into the navy in June, 1945. V Ray Llewelyn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Llewellyn of this city, was recently promoted to private first class, according to word received re-ceived by his parents. Enlisting in January 1946, he left the states by air shortly after and ia now stationed in Tokyo, Japan, with the army signal corps. He reports that he is getting the Springville Miss Norma Brockbank has just returned from California, where she visited her sister Elaine and husband and their new baby. Mrs. Emma Kennedy and daughter, daugh-ter, Glenna, left Wednesday evening eve-ning on a vacation trip to Sutherland, Suther-land, Nebr., where they will visit Mrs. Kennedy's sister, Mrs. Arch Coombs and family and will attend at-tend the wedding of the latter's daughter, Ada, on August 9. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Halbman and Mrs. Agnes Eisman spent the week end at Yellowstone Park and with relatives and friends in Idaho. Mrs- Eisman plans to remain re-main a few days to visit in Idaho and Montana. John L. Metcalf of Afton, Wyo., spent the week end with his mother, moth-er, Mrs. Mary L. Metcalf, in Springville. He is superintendent of schools at Afton. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Carver and daughter, Carmaleta and Mrs Carver's Car-ver's mother, Mrs. Ina Gottfred-son Gottfred-son have just returned from a very enjoyable trip to Yellowstone Park. They were gone a week. Miss Jean Larsen and Miss Louise Long spent the week end with the latter's parents, Mr; and Mrs. Michael Long. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Sumsion and daughter, Carol, left Saturday Satur-day for a trip to Yellowstone Park and will also visit friends in Idaho. Mrs. Ina Gottf redson has as her guests this week, her daughter, Mrs. Austin Bissell, Joan, Nedra and Charles Bissell of Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Thorn and daughter, June, and son Louie, have returned from several days' trip to Yellowstone Park. Chaperoned by Wilford Man-waring Man-waring and Clarence Jensen, fourteen four-teen members of the Fifth ward senior Scout patrol have just returned re-turned from a vacation trip to Yellowstone Park. Included in the group were Robert Thorn, Jim-mie Jim-mie Thorn, Rell Francis, Allan Ferguson, Paul Barker, La Var Nelson, Lamar Holmes, Glen Frandsen, Clifford Jones, James Fry, Dean Packard, Norman Clyde, Dick Sumsion, Mr. Man-waring Man-waring and Mr. Jensen. LeeMaster of this city, has been given his discharge from the navy in which he served the past two and a half years. He has been stationed at York-town, York-town, Va., and was given his discharge dis-charge from Camp Shelton, Va. He is an electrician mate, third class. With his buddies, he visited the northern woods of Virginia and also visited in Milwaukee, Wis. Mr. and Mrs. Newton McDowell (Inez Jessee) and two sons plan to leave next week to make their home at Mesa, Ariz. Mr. McDowell McDow-ell and children are visiting this week at the home of Miss Alzada Wilmott. m Eleven members from the Mapleton Ma-pleton Jaycee club traveled to Delta last Saturday to attend the charter night banquet of that organization. or-ganization. The following day a large group with their families, joined at an outing sponsored by the American Fork Junior Chamber Cham-ber at American Fork canyon. A hike to the ;ave followed by a sumptous dinner and program featured the occasion. Mrs- Mary Oakes and son, Tommy Tom-my of Salt Lake City, formerly of Springville, visited here one day last week. Tommy left on Friday to train with the Marines at San Diego, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. Cal Finley are spending a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Fin-Icy Fin-Icy and other relatives and friends in Springville. Melvina and Janis Pulley have returned home from a delightful vacation spent at Bear Lake and Yellowstone Park, as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Chivers. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Condie and family of Cowley, Wyo., visited vis-ited relatives and friends here this week en route home. He recently re-cently received his Masters degree 'fom Laramie, Wyo- |
