Show RED DEVILS DROP 14-7 GAME TO LEH1 PIONEERS Officials for the Sprlngville-Lohl Sprlngville-Lohl football encounter here last week, hung up something in the form of a record when they probably prob-ably gained more yardage than either football team on the field. Although they didn't make any flashy runs or line plunges, they did ring up some nice yardage via the penalty way. It seemed to onlookers on-lookers on the sidelines who were racing up and down the field trying try-ing to keep abreast of the plays, that the game was to be determined deter-mined by the number of penalties inflicted upon one or the other of the toams, Instead of the highest high-est scoring. Be that as it may, Lehl copped the game 14 to 7, to leave Springville fans wondering wonder-ing what chances the locals yet have by way of trophy getting. Opening an aerial attack on the Red Devils in the beginning of the first quarter, the Lehl Pioneers Pio-neers drove to the Devils' 20-yard 20-yard line before they were finally stopped by the Reds. Springville was unable to gain any yardage, so Bird booted a nice punt to put the Ded Devils out of danger. Lehl was penalized on their first play j and went for a 15-yard setback. Cameron, center for the Red Devils, Dev-ils, blocked a pass over the center of the line to help hold the Pioneers Pio-neers in check. i Lehl blocked an attempted punt by Piatt Watts, qb, and Ash recovered re-covered the ball on Springvllle's i own 10-yard strip. As the first quarter ended, Lehl had the ball on Springvllle's own 6-inch line. Lehl, with three downs to make the six inches and a touchdown, fumbled the ball on the first play of the second quarter and Spring- After this play, late in the final quarter, Lehi tossed a pass which was intercepted by Gividen on his own 4-yard line. After the play was called and the officials designated desig-nated to the chain 'boys that the ball would move the other way, Wilson, payson official, called a penalty on Springville and gave the ball back to the Pioneers, where they went over for the final score of victory. The Red Devils played the entire en-tire game without the services of their regular fullback, Stone, who was injured in a previous game. The next league game, which will be the final home game, will be played on the Springville grid-Iron grid-Iron October 18, and will pit the Devils against the Pleasant Grove Vikings. vllle recovered. The Ded Devils attempted a punt to put them out of danger, but Lehi broke in to block the kick and recovered the ball on the 9-yard line. It took two plays after that for the purple-clad boys to score their initial ini-tial 6 points of the game.. The attempted kick was no good, but the officials called another penalty pen-alty on the play and Nostrum carried car-ried the ball over for the extra point to give Lehi a 7-0 lead. Late in the second quarter, Harold Har-old Gividen romped down the field 48 yards to cross the goal line for the Red and Blue. Bud Aver-ett Aver-ett plunged over for the tieing score of 7 to 7. During the second half, Springville Spring-ville completely dominated play throughout. Lehi was unable to make downs except on penalties and one long pass that bounced off a Red Devil's hand and fell into the hands of a Lehi man, who raced to the 15-yard line before being overtaken by Watts. |
