Murphy, assistant federal weather bureau meteorolo-i gist, reported today. ! After a record-breaking sum-: mer drouth, rains In September were doubly important. On the whole, they fell gradually and not in cloudbursts, so that the moisture mois-ture had an opportunity to sink into the parched ground. Basing his figure on the aver- age from 109 widely scattered stations, sta-tions, Utah's average September precipitation totaled 2.77 inches, or 1.71 above the normal of 1.06. This figure shattered the all time "high," breaking the record of 2.61 inches set in September, 1939. Tentative calculations showed that Cedar Breaks was the wettest wet-test spot in the state with a total of 7.13 inches during the month, followed closely by Moon Lake with 6.58 inches. Lehi proved to have been the dryest with only .61 of an inch. Currently, the federal weather man is promising a continuation of the "Indian Summer" weather which has prevailed over much of Utah. |
