Show Armed Forces Robert Huntington, who recently recent-ly passed his final examinations at the Naval Training station at San Diego, Calif., visited with relatives and friends here last week prior to leaving this week for foreign service with the navy. Leonard Stone, son of Mrs. Florence Flor-ence Stone of Mapleton has recently re-cently been promoted to a staff sergeant in the marine corps. He has now also completed training at Corpus Christi, Texas, and is being transferred to Cherry Point, N. C. Frank Butler has returned to Victorville, Calif., following a few Havs' furlough spent with relatives here. Keith "Bud" Kennedy, son of Mrs. Emma Kennedy, came from Camp Forest, Tenn., the past week to spend a few days' furlough with relatives here. Burgess Sumsion, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Sumsion, has been given an honorable release from the army because of age limitations, limita-tions, and returned the past week from camp in Texas. Bud Averett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Farn Averett, has begun work in aviation mechanics at the Amarillo army air field at Amarillo, Texas. This field is one of the newest technical training centers. Aux. Merle Fletcher, daughter of --,. roo TrietrVipr. has been trans- ferred from the First Women's Army Auxiliary Corps training center at Des Moines, Iowa, and ordered to recruiting duty in the Third Service Command, according accord-ing to word received from the training center. , She is to report to the commanding com-manding general at Baltimore, Mr. and will then be assigned to a particular par-ticular station in the service command com-mand territory for service in a WAAC recruiting office. A note was received today by the Herald from Arthur A. Gun-nell Gun-nell at Keesler Field, Miss., thanking thank-ing the Junior Chamber of Commerce Com-merce and the people of Springville Spring-ville for their interest in sending the boys in the armed forces the home town paper, and expressing his appreciation to them for the paper. ' Pvt. Gunnell has just recently graduated from a 17-week course in airplane mechanics at Keesler Field and expects a new assignment. assign-ment. Pvt. Stewart B. Starr, son of Mrs. Jennie Starr, has graduated from a course in aviation mechanics mechan-ics at Inglewood, Calif., according to word received by the Herald. He has been assigned as a crew chief on a bomber and joined the crew of a new ship when it came off the production line. Capt. Robert A. Cranmer, son of Mrs. William Obie of this city, was recently recommended by the commanding com-manding general of the Desert Training Center, for his splendid work and efficient performance of duty as a commanding officer ever the 605th Engineer Camouflage battalion. A copy of the commendation commen-dation signed by the major general was received at the office Wednesday. Wednes-day. Captain Cranmer has advanced rapidly in army service since his enlistment in the National Guard, Springville unit, which left here in March, 1941. He is now stationed sta-tioned at Camp Young, Calif. Raymond Dunn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Dunn, has graduated from preliminary training at Farragut, Ida., naval training base and has now been transferred to Norman, Okla., where he will be enlisted in training for an aviation machinist's machin-ist's mate during the next six months. |
