Show Secretary Gives Report Of C of C Achievements J By LEO A. CRANDALL The Chamber of Commerce of Springville has completed its second sec-ond successful year under the leadership of Claude G. Salisbury, president. During the past two years many strides forward have been made In the city because of the cooperation coopera-tion of the Chamber of Commerce, with the other civic organizations, namely the Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis club, assisted also by many others. This has led us to the conclusion that not as a direct result of the efforts ef-forts of the Commercial club have many improvements been brought about but through an increased interest in the city by many of its active citizens. By active citizens we do not mean those who have been in the limelight entirely, but all those who are helping with their support on contributions or their help in committee work. Outstanding in the work of the chamber has been the organization organiza-tion and establishment of the National Na-tional Guard unit. We feel proud of this accomplishment for many reasons. The establishment of this unit will eventually mean an armory for our city, which will add greatly to its artistic beauty; but even superior to this is the fact that this enables our boys, eligible for the draft, to go away as a unit and enjoy the association associa-tion of leaders and boys whom we know are fit companions for them to associate with while away from their homes and church environment. environ-ment. This fact alone would have warranted the organization of the Chamber of Commerce because we know that the boys of this unit will be an asset to Springville while in training, and that their welfare will be taken care of. Of great value also is tlve success suc-cess in securing a new federal building, which is now a realization realiza-tion of our dreams since organization. organi-zation. This project is one that should have been received long ago but like many other needed improvements im-provements had been neglected and no one had been successful in organizing in sufficient strength to got a federal approriation. Some of the other projects of importance have been the work in connection with the zoning ordinance ordin-ance recently passed for the beau-tification beau-tification of Springville, as well as for the benefit of its health, the promise of road improvements on both ends of Springville's Main street by the state road commission, commis-sion, the sponsoring of many cele-( cele-( Continued on page ten) Chamber of Commerce Achievement Report (Continued from page one) brations, and activities of great importance which we must not advertise ad-vertise at this time. We have not been an organization organiza-tion to boast and we do not list these activities to do so at this time but merely call their attention atten-tion to the people of Springville, whom we know are also proud of them. Sprngville has come a long way in the past ninety years without with-out the Chamber of Commerce, and had it not been organized, the city could have continued to progress pro-gress without its help, perhaps, but there has been an attitude of "Let George Do It!" and "George" has done very well, but how much faster we can and are now progressing when we consolidate consoli-date our efforts! It was for this purpose that the organization was started and it is for this reason that it is continuing to grow, he-cause he-cause the workers in Springville are steadily pushing forward with an ever-ncreasing desire to advertise adver-tise their city due to its many advantages. ad-vantages. If we have done nothing else we have been successfuT in advertising Springville to our neighbors and we have afforded people an opportunity of becoming becom-ing acquainted with us and the I finer side of our living. |
