Show WIGHTMAN IN RACE FOR COMMISSION POST i Philo C Wightman, former mayor of Payson, filed with the county clerk this week his candidacy candi-dacy for the nomination of Utah county commissioner. Mr. Wightman became well known throughout the county during dur-ing his two terms as mayor, having hav-ing served as a member of the county public welfare board for three years. His long career as a business man, livestock specialist and civic worker tends to fit him for the office of commissioner. He has served as president of the Payson Lions club and also deputy district governor of Lions International. Inter-national. For a number of years he has been chairman of the Nebo Stake Old Folks' committee. During his terms as Payson's mayor, he championed many projects, pro-jects, including a $300,000 sewer system, a $60,000 municipal hospital, hos-pital, many miles of paved sidewalks side-walks and curbing and enlarging and beautification of the City cemetery. Mr. Wightman's supporters have in mind a verbal agreement made some years ago and always adhered ad-hered to, between Spanish Fork and Payson, that the office of county commissioner rotates between be-tween the two communities every two terms and Payson claims the right to name the candidate for the November election. |
