Show D.U.P.PLANS MARKER FOR PIONEER MILLS Historic Monument To Be Unveiled On September 18th Erection of a marker to designate desig-nate the sites of the first flour mill and the first cotton mill in Utah county is planned to take place in the near future under the direction of the Springville camps of Daughters of .Utah Pioneers, it was announced this week by Captain Cap-tain Josie Alleman of Camp Aaron Johnson, D. U. P. chairman of the marker committee, who received the information from the Utah chairman, Mrs. Sarah H. Passey. Present plants include unveiling unveil-ing of the marker September 18, when the local D. U. P. camps will observe the ninetieth anniversary of the founding of Springville. The marker will commemorate the building of the first flour mill built by Jacob Houtz, Jackson Stewart,, and William Bringhurst in 18 6 3. This cotton mill was the first in Utah and was later turned turn-ed into an old woolen mill that burned down in 1914. The historic marker will designate desig-nate Spring Creek as the place where the first mills were built in Utah county. |
