Show BRITONS COMPARE BOMBINGS NOW WITH THOSE OF '40 The British Government has issued is-sued a statement showing the comparative tonnage of German bombs on Britain and of British bombs dropped on Germany in various t h r e e-months' periods since the war beagn. The statistics reveal the startling start-ling change that has come about in three years. Whereas, Germany dropped 18,900 tons of bombs on Great Britain in the third quarter of 1940, the best the Nazis could do in the second quarter of 1943 was 700 tons. The British, who dropped 2,750 tons of bombs on Germany in the third quarter of 1940, were able to drop 36,700 tons in the second quarter of this year. The British have advanced from the dismal day of 1940, when they were able to drop only one ton of bombs on Germany against seven dropped in Britain, to the present time, when they are dropping more than fifty tons of bombs on Germany Ger-many to one that drops on English soil. It should be understood that these figures do not include bombs dropped on occupied territories in Europe, the activity of air forces in Africa, or the United States bombing missions that operate from England. |
