Show FORTY THOUSAND HAVE DONATED TO WAR FUNDS The U. S. Treasury Department Depart-ment announces that more than 40,000 persons have given the government gov-ernment $5,106,989 since Pearl Harbor. While the names of the donors are not revealed, the War Department Depart-ment reports that an army captain in Tennessee sends in his paycheck pay-check every month and that he is only one of hundreds who make regular donations. - While the amount of the gifts represents only a tiny fraction of the cost of the war, it is refreshing refresh-ing to know that there are some Americans anxious to give something some-thing to the Government to help win the war. Incidentally, the largest cash gift, $50,000, came from a New Jersey business man who, evidently evi-dently had not been impressed with the propaganda of reactionary reaction-ary business leaders, who are trying: try-ing: to persuade the nation that the Government, instead of Hitler, is the enemy of all business. |
