Show Snow Conditions Favorable On 1940 Watershed Snow conditions on the Diamond Dia-mond Fork - Hobble Creek watershed water-shed are more favorable this year as compared with 1938-39, according ac-cording to Merrill Nielson, forest ranger at Spanish Fork. The Diamond Dia-mond Fork - Hobble Creek snow course was established in 1937 and the first measurements were made March 27 of that year. Sixteen Six-teen measurements are made at 50-foot intervals over the course. This course is located on what is known as the Pumphouse Ridge and is fairly representative of the Diamond Fork - Hobble Creek watershed. The measurements showed a snow depth of 26.9 inches with a water content of 10.34 inches on March 29, as compared with a snow depth of 19.75 inches and a water' content of 7.62 inches in 1939. The average snow depth since 1937 is 33 inches with a water wa-ter content of 12.32 inches. The year 19 37 was highest in snow fall with 4 4 inches of snow and a water content of 17.60 inches. All measurements were made at the same locations between March 27 and April 1. The snow conditions condi-tions appear to be lighter on the higher watershed under the Strawberry Straw-berry Ridge, as most of the south slopes are bare now. The ground is very wet and there is no runoff, run-off, Mr. Nielson said. |
