Show GEORGE L. HYDE SERVICES TODAY In honor of George L. Hyde, i 80, who died Monday at 6:40 p.m. at a Salt Lake hospital of a heart ailment, final rites will be conducted con-ducted today at 1 p.m. in the Second Sec-ond Ward Chapel. Mr. Hyde was for many years prominently identified with civic j improvement and connected with' various departments in active church work. He was born in Spring City, Utah, March 16, 1860, -a son of Orson Hyde, prominent pioneer L.D.S. church leader and member of the church's council of twelve apostles, and Ann Eliza Vickers Hyde. He resided in Springville during the major part of his life. As a young man, he was employed employ-ed by the old Utah Northern railroad, rail-road, with headquarters in Ogden. Later he entered the mining business, being associated with the Bullion-Beck Mining company at Eureka, the Annie Laurie mine at Marysvale, and various other mineral properties. In 18 93 he left the mining business busi-ness and settled on a farm in Springville. He became active in civic affairs, serving on the city council from about 1914 to 1918 and being one of the prime instigators in-stigators of a municipal power plant and city-owned water supply. sup-ply. He was also active in the L.D.S. church, serving as bishop's counselor coun-selor in the Springville second ward and later as president of the high priest's quorum of the ward. He married Jennie Davis in the Salt Lake Endowment house on April 30, 1883. She died in 1919. He later married Mrs. Mattie I Acord in November 1921, and she died in January 1936. Surviving are a brother, Joseph S. Hyde of Salt Lake City, a sister, Mrs. Geneva Justesen of Spring City; a son, Lyman Hyde of Oregon; Ore-gon; three daughters, Miss Blanche Blan-che Hyde of Brigham City and Mrs. M. E. Dalton and Mrs. R. E. Wilson of Salt Lake City; 11 grandchildren and one greatgrandchild. great-grandchild. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery under the direction of the Larkin Funeral Home. Friends may view the body at the old home next door south of the Second Ward church from 11:30 to 12:30 before the services. |
