Show Paul Thorn Elected To Nebo Board : ' Cose i?ace Features School Election Winning Candidate Well Qualified For Position With Experience As A Teacher And Parent ; Will Be First Springville Precinct Representative Paul Thorn was elected to represent the Springville precinct on Nebo school district board of education in the election here Wednesday. Wed-nesday. Of a total of 650 votes cast, the winning candidate polled 213 votes. Harold Christensen came second in the contest, polling 1S2 votes, while V. C. Mendenhall received 148 votes; Harrison Conover, 64; W. R. Eddington, 27, and Peter Nielson, 16. The election was one of the most spirited and enthusiastic held here, with the largest number of candidates ever to run for a school-board school-board election here. The election was - also the first held since Springville was made a precinct in itself, and this fact may have had some bearing on the importance of the election. Mr. Thorn was born in Springville Spring-ville and has made his home here always. Upon graduating from the local high school in 1924, he entered en-tered the Brigham Young university univer-sity and at the end of his freshman fresh-man year, was called on a mission to South Africa. After returning from his mission, he entered the "Y" and was graduated with a B. S. degree in 1931. Mr. Thorn is interested in school affairs and through his experience is well qualified for the position to which he is elected. For three years, lie was a teacher teach-er in the local high school and is acquainted with problems from this standpoint. With four children chil-dren in school at the present time, he is also vitally interested in the schools from a parent's point of view. |
