Show Chamber of Commerce Makes Report Of Outstanding Achievements in 1939 In a little less than a year of organization, the local business men's Chamber of Commerce has successfully promoted a number of projects which contribute to the welfare of Springville. Some of the major projects which the Chamber has promoted include the establishment of the engineering unit of the National Guard in, this city, which brings an annual payroll to Springville of approximately $10,000. and boasts an enlistment of approximately approx-imately 80 men and officers. The acquisition of a new Federal Fed-eral building was one of the most important achievements during 1939. The financial appropriation appropria-tion has been made, the site has been secured and the actual con struction of the building will begin be-gin in the very near future. Ten thousand attractive green folders advertising the Art Exhibit Ex-hibit were printed and distributed distrib-uted by mail in communications sent out by members of the Chamber Cham-ber of Commerce. Also over 5,000 pieces of literature were distributed to out of state cars coming into the state at Wend-over, Wend-over, Utah. This literature contained con-tained information regarding Springville and the desirability of tourists traveling through our city in preference to other routes through the state. Noteworthy celebrations sponsored spon-sored by the Chamber included the mammoth Fourth of July celebration and the pre-Christ-mas celebration when downtown lights were turned on and the Chri tmas parade was inaugurated inaugurat-ed for the first time. Several meetings were held with the Utah County commissioners commis-sioners and the state road commission com-mission with the object in view of constructing a highway through the left hand fork of Hobble Creek canyon to the East. Tiie Chamber of Commerce has answered many inquiries concerning concern-ing Springville and its trade area and has through this means to an extent further advertised this city. Work has also been done on various other projects that have not yet materialized. |
