Show 'Thrilling- Serial At Ritz This Week-End. CHAPTER FOUR Jim, with Mary in his arms, leaps from the wagon just before it crashes into the water. Death 1 seems certain as the two are caught in the rushing torrent. Swept downstream toward the cataract, ca-taract, Jim valiantly saves Mary from drowning but their plight looks hopeless. y As they struggle for shore, Reade captures the girl, but Jim, dazed by taking the brunt of the fall, is unseen by the outlaws and escapes. Wolf's party withdraws to a hideout and sends word that Mary will be freed as a hostage in return for the map to the mine. Jim pretends to agree, though he knows this to be a ruse, and that his life may be forfeited. But he has a plan to release Mary, and almost succeeds when both are trapped in a deserted cabin, loaded with T. N. T. Reade then sets fire to an old wagon and speeds it into the shack. Death seems certain. |
