Show Mapleton Sends Gifts To Servicemen Fifty-Five Service People from Mapleton Will Receive a Year's Subscription to The Herald And The Reader's Digest From Townspeople Exhibiting a true spirit of Christmas, citizens of Mapleton will send every one of their service men a fine gift again this Christmas, announces John I. Holley, mayor. Funds for the gifts were raised through a community entertainment entertain-ment given at Mapleton some time ago, and also through other liberal liber-al contributions made by Mapleton Maple-ton townspeople. There are a total of fifty-five Mapleton men in the service and each one of these will be sent a free subscription, for one year, to the Springville Herald and to the Readers Digest. Last Christmas, there were forty Mapleton men in the service and these were sent a similar gift. Through efforts of the town of Mapleton, last year's subscriptions will be renewed this Christmas. In giving the magazine and the home-town paper, citizens felt that these would be a year-round gift, and one appreciated by those away from home. Several letters of appreciation to the Mapleton residents have been received from men from that community for the subscriptions they received last year, Mayor Holley stated. In connection with the project of sending the home-town paper to the boys, parents and friends are asked to send any news in which the boys might be interested, interest-ed, and that includes almost everything every-thing when one is away from home. The value of the paper as a gift depends on the news which the boys find in it and the amount of interest they have in the stories. sto-ries.
