Show Honors Come To New Found Local Artist It isn't hidden talent which Edward Murdock of this city posseses but it was quite unknown at least to townspeople until announcement this week of his 5'worK taxing urst piace at a county fair. The announcement came also as a complete surprise to the artist as his mother a resident of Heber City, entered the portrait in the Wasatch County Fair without his knowledge. The picture was a portrait por-trait of a Negro newsboy who sells papers in Salt Lake City and posed for Mr. Murdock. Each year, the painting judged outstanding at the Wasatch Co. Fair is'purchased and placed in a public building in the community. However because of the excellence of this year's winner, it will be placed on exhibit in each of the school buildings in the county before be-fore a permanent place is selected, selec-ted, it is stated. Mr. Murdock is a son of Mrs. Bertha Jeffs of Heber. He graduated gradu-ated from the BYU in commercial (Continued on Page Two) Honors Come To New Found Artist (Continued from Page One) art in 1949 and last winter studied at the University'of Utah, he earns his living still with oils being at the present time employed as a painter. His wife is the former Gloria Palfreyman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Palfreyman and they have a young son. Judging from the success of the first entry of his work, he has a promising career ahead as an artist. |
