Show V C Officials Explain Ordinance on Burning Garbage The Springville city office has been besieged with calls concerning concern-ing the burning of dry leaves since the passing of an ordinance some weeks ago which stated, "It shall be unlawful for any person or persons per-sons to burn garbage, leaves, grasses, or other refuse that emits any noxious or objectionable odor in the air before first having obtained ob-tained a written permit from the city council." It was stated Wednesday that the ordinance was passed especially especial-ly to curb the burning of damp garbage, which smolders and smokes for hours thus being a nuisance in some neighborhoods. Dry leaves may be burned if precaution pre-caution is taken to watch the fire and it is set early in the day to avoid spreading during the night, city officials explain. They would rather the dry leaves be burned than for them to be boxed up or set out for the garbage collector. |
