Show Well-Attended Quarterly Conference (loses with MIA Evening Program President David 0. McKay of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints seemed destined at an early age to be the president of the church having received devine guidance and revelations rev-elations as a youth according to stories of the fife of the president given in the MIA meeting Sunday Sun-day evening, following general sessions ses-sions of quarterly conference. Telling of various periods in the life of President McKay were Mar-va Mar-va Davis, Edwin Thomas, Lael Hepworth and Marie Tipton. The meeting was iri charge of Lawrence Law-rence Lynn of the stake board. Music for the evening was furnished furn-ished by a youth chorus directed by Mrs. Vera Zobell with Mina Murray at the organ. Prayers were bv Nedra Whitney and Calvin Hjorth. The conference began with a welfare meeting Saturday evening, directed by President Leo A. Crandall, Cran-dall, who presided at all general meetings on Sunday. President Crandall also gave the opening talk stressing the duty of a ward bishop as a counselor to his people. He described discouragement as the tool used by Satan to destroy man and said that major problems in man's life come from omission rather than commission. Elder Delbert D. Stapley of the "Council of Twelve continued comment com-ment on the subject of the part Satan plays in one's life, stating that he attempts to make man miserable, while the Gospel of Christ brings light to the people and if it is kept burning will des-pel des-pel all darkness and transgression. William Lawrence, representing the general welfare board, accompanying accom-panying Apostle Stapley to the conference, commended Koiod Stake on its welfare program and described the church program as a safeguard to its people. Speaking in the afternoon ses-sin, ses-sin, Perry D. Goodliffe of the presidency, pres-idency, outlined five major items which young people should follow namely: Be active in Priesthood, never take the priesthood to undesirable un-desirable places; keep close , to parents; make the bishop a close friend and plan early in life for a temple marriage. The need of a spiritual checkup was stressed by Glen A. Christen sen of the stake presidency in his talk in the afternoon meeting.
