Show Playhouse Stages Three-Act Comedy Tonight and Friday in Fourth Ward "Where There's Smoke", a 3-act Comedy, will be staged tonight to-night and Friday night at 8:15 on the Fourth-Seventh ward stage by the Springville Playhouse to which the general public is invited. The play is the final offering of the 1950-51 season and all membership member-ship cards will be honored. I The comedy, which is directed by Merle Schreiner, Playhouse President, has a cast of 12 people, most of whom are new to the theatre group, yet who have had considerable experience on the stage. New scenery especially made for the play will be seen. Center- Sing around the Matthews family. Setting for the play is in the mountains where the Matthews family is spending the summer. Ethel and Grandma McNeil, played play-ed by Mrs. Anna Lee Strong and Mrs. John M. Judd respectively, are arounsed at two o'clock on Saturday night to answer the phone. Ethel's daughter Kay, played by Elaine Erickson, has been hurt in an automobile accident acci-dent with Jerry Bradford, played by Mark Hoover. Ethel discovers her sons Tom and Jim, taken by Leland Ford and Grant Clyde respectively, re-spectively, are both out. Tom is located at a roadhouse. Jim announces an-nounces he must leave on business busi-ness the next day. When the youngsters come in they laugh at mother's fear and concern. She angrily tells them they may do what they like and take the consequences. From that time on she assumes an attitude of indifference. She refuses to worry aboutthe gossip over Kay's affair or from her own friendship with Carlton Craig played by Merlin Fox. The surprise ending promises pro-mises a satisfying and happy evening even-ing for all. Other members of the cast include in-clude Joan Huff, Mary Maycock, Hrlen Johnson, Carol Friel and Jay Haymond. Assisting with director Merle Schreiner in the production are Zina Johnson, scenery designer; Cora Lee Johnson, Harriet Whiting Whit-ing assisting Miss Johnson; Lee Huff, staging; Lois Hansen, makeup; make-up; Cecil Robertson, Elmina Mad-sen, Mad-sen, hostesses; Marilyn Roylance, Lucile Mendenhall, Kay Neilson, Janet Groesbeck, Kathleen Childs, Norma Roylance, ushers. |
