Show Three Classes in Every Community From a speech by Edgar L. Dessen, M.D., Hazelton, Pa. There are three classes of residents resi-dents in any community: those who live off it, those who live in it, and those who live for it. The first class are parasites, reaping where they do not sow. The second class lives in the community but has little or nothing to do with its activities. If enough of the population pop-ulation are in this group, there is community hari-kari. The third class of residents of a community, those who live for it, recognize their political, social and economic duties as citizens by taking an attitude at-titude of live civic brotherhood. Such men meet on common ground regardless of professional status, physical possessions, religion, or politics. |
