Show 'Music Club Hears -Of National Meet A review of the bienniel convention con-vention of the Federation of Music Mu-sic clubs held last spring in Florida Flor-ida was given by Mrs. F. C. Packard Pack-ard to memberb of the Springville Federated Music club Friday .evening .eve-ning of last week when they met for the first meeting of the season sea-son at the home of Mrs. Lewis Bird. Highlights of the convention reported Mrs. Packard, were the culmination of some of the objectives ob-jectives of the Federation; the giving of thousands of dollars in scholarships to promising young musical artists; the furtherance of American music and recognition recogni-tion of American composers and the . organization of music study groups both on senior and junior levels. The theme of the convention, "Fiesta of the Five Flags," came from Florida's historical setting, for the state has been under the flags of the Spanish, French, the English, the Confederacy, and the United States. Mrs. Packard reviewed re-viewed a litle of the state's history and invited the group to sing the state song, "Swanee River." On the lighter side, Mrs. Packard Pack-ard described the colorful luncheons, lunch-eons, the parade of states, interesting inter-esting personalities, and other functions which were part of the convention. Though, she didn't mention it, Mrs. Packard herself was given special recognition at the convention conven-tion for her work in stimulating new music groups throughout the state of Utah. She has served as a vice-president of the Utah State Federation of Music Clubs. President Zina Johnson conducted con-ducted the meeting. The study course chosen for the year was presented to the group and books distributed by Mrs. LaRell Johnson John-son and Mrs. Kent Palfreyman of the program committee. It was decided by the group that, in keeping with the aims of the national Federation, it would sponsor a series of recitals featuring fea-turing outstanding young local musicians and composers. Mrs. Maurice Bird was selected as the chairman with Mrs. Ernest Boyr, assistant. |
