Show RARE PLANT ON EXHIBIT Attracting considerable attention atten-tion and interest among local people this week, is the rare plant known as the night blooming cereus or phyllocactus,. being exhibited ex-hibited in the window of the local floral. Sending forth its blossoms but once each year, the rare species blooms nightly, its gorgeous, creamy white flower closing with the light of day. It is said to be a native of South Africa and only a very few are in the state. The plant originally came from the University of Utah botanical gardens being given to Miss Florence Flor-ence Mendenhall , ten years ago. Her mother, Mrs. Anna Mendenhall Menden-hall kept the plant until nearly five years ago when it was placed in the local greenhouse. It has five buds with but one left to open this year. From the large plant, a smaller one started from a leaf is growing grow-ing under the care of Dean Stewart, Stew-art, floral manager, who is awaiting await-ing with interest its first blossom blos-som this year. |
