Show PAYSON TO CELEBRATE ONION DAY PAYSON Payson's tenth annual an-nual Golden Onion Days and Home Coming celebration, sponsored spon-sored by the city and participated partici-pated in by Tintic Miners Union, Local No. 151, is now in readiness. readi-ness. A most hearty invitation is extended to the residents of Utah and adjacent counties to join in the high class entertainment provided pro-vided for this bigthree-day harvest har-vest festival. Activities will begin Friday evening at 8 p. m., with a pre-celebration pre-celebration boxing carnival at Spoits field. This feature will include 19 rounds of high class boxing, with Kid Cannon, pride of the University of Idaho and Max Young, Payson, in the Jiead-I Jiead-I liner. A softball game between ,; Payson and Nephi junior cham-oer cham-oer of commerce teams will precede pre-cede the fights. Payson's famous horse races, featuring seven thrilling races, supplemented with high class entertainment en-tertainment between each race, will be held at Sports field Saturday Sat-urday and Monday afternoons. One of the feature added attractions attrac-tions for Monday afternoon will' be a baseball game between Dividend Divi-dend and Provo. This game will be held before the race meet gets underway. The great Picadilly three-ring circus, the most unusual show ever staged in Utah, will be given in a mammoth open air arena, enhanced by 18 giant flood lights at Sports field, Saturday and Monday nights. Arrangements have been made to seat 3500 for this feature and there will be but one front gate admission charge. Sunday is the homecoming day and will include regular . Sunday school services, a double-header baseball game in the afternoon with Spanish Fork playing Nephi and Dividend playing American Fork; a public reception, the D. H. Christensen's student body reunion, band concerts, and the annual home coming program at the tabernacle in the evening, will conclude Sunday's festivities. Monday will be Utah's greatest great-est Labor Day celebration featuring fea-turing the mammoth parade at 10 a. m., with ten bands, two drum and bugle corps, sixty floats, Tintic Miners' union section, sec-tion, miniature section and many other features. Dances will include the coronation cor-onation ball Saturday evening, at which time the Onion Day Queen and Miss Payson will be honored with appropriate ceremonies. A second official committee sponsored spon-sored dance will be held Monday Mon-day night. Both of the dances will be held at Arrowhead. A carnival each day at Memorial Mem-orial .park will feature nine riding devices, including the new Octupus ride; eight shows, circus cir-cus and over 20 concession stands. Races for children Saturday morning, circus and band parade par-ade Saturday evening;, special picture shows and numerous extra ex-tra features will make continuous continu-ous entertainment for everyone all three days of the celebration. Mayor Philo C. Wightman is general chairman of the celebration, celebra-tion, with Floyd Harmer, vice-chairman; vice-chairman; Jordan A. Law, secretary-treasurer; and Ray Wilson, Wil-son, executive secretary-manager. These officers, together with the chairman of thirteen celebration committees, make up the genera gen-era committee. |
