Show Local Items William R. Clyde, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Clyde of Spring-viile, Spring-viile, is expected home for the summer vacation immediately following fol-lowing commencement at New Mexico Military institute, Ros-well, Ros-well, May 29 to June 1. There are eleven boys from Utah enrolled en-rolled at N.M.M.I. One cadet from Utah will be graduated from New Mexico Military institute insti-tute this year, and two will receive re-ceive high school certificates at the graduation ceremonies. Young Clyde is enrolled in the junior college division. PROVO Arthur Hughes, son of Mrs. Clara Hughes of Springville, Spring-ville, has been approved for graduation with a bachelor of arts degree from Brigham Young-university Young-university at the sixtieth commencement, com-mencement, June 9. He is one of 332 graduates to be addressed by Pres. J. Reuben Clark and. Apostle Joseph Fielding Field-ing Smith, commencement speakers. speak-ers. Mr. Hughes, a Springville high school graduate, will receive a high school teacher's certificate with a teaching major in physical physi-cal education and a. minor in sociology. Special to the Springville Herald SALT LAKE CITY, June 2 Approximately 550 students will be granted degTees at the University Uni-versity of Utah June 8, according to an announcement made this week by E. J. Norton, registrar. Tentative graduates include: Education: Virginia Rivers, of Springville; law, Glen Willis Sumsion, Sum-sion, Springville; business, James Morris Bird, Mapleton. to attend the graduation exercises exer-cises at which their son, Mack, will receive his doctor's degree from Washington university. Shortly after the graduation exercises ex-ercises Mr. and Mrs. Dougall will accompany their son and his wife back to Springville. The latter couple will visit here a short time before returning to the east where Mr. Dougall will begin his interne work. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Stewart and Mr. Stewart's sister Wanda, have just returned from a delightful de-lightful trip to Detroit, where the latter purchased a new car. En route they visited Mrs. Stewart's Stew-art's sister, Mrs. Harvey Fearn and family at Rock Springs, Wyo., and also spent a few days with Mrs. Stewart's brother, Dr. 3yron . Burt and .family at Chicago, Chi-cago, 111. They took a trip also into Canada and on their return visited the larger cities in the middle west. They stopped a short time at Denver, Colo., and visited Mr. Stewart's father, LaVar Stewart, Stew-art, on their return. The Springville Kiwanis club under the direction of President Milton Harrison, will join wth the Park City club at an inter-club inter-club meeting and social at Midway Mid-way Hot Pots, Saturday night. The regular Thursday night meeting of the local club' will be postponed for the joint meeting meet-ing with other clubs. Arthur Gaeth, former president of the Czechoslovakian mission, gave an especially interesting talk at the Sunday evening services in the Second ward last Sunday Sun-day evening. ... Thinning of sugar beets in this vicinity has furnished employment employ-ment to practically every boy who desires to work, farmers report. re-port. The picking of strawberries strawber-ries also began in the larger patches in Springville and Mapleton Maple-ton this week and the harvesting harvest-ing of this crop which is expected ex-pected to be about normal, will furnish employment 'to a "large number of girls. Members of the LaJolie club were delightfully entertained last Thursday night at the home of Mrs. Melva Harrison. Assisting hostesses were Nathalie Oakley, Harriet Miner. Early in the evening eve-ning a tasty luncheon was servr ed at small tables. Later bridge was played. Prizes for the games were won by Reva Roylance and Gladys Felix. Guests at the party were Dally Thorn, Gladys Felix, and Madge Crandall . and the members were Ruth Miller, Reva Roylance, Dona Whitney, Lucille Taylor, Fern Senior, Melva Harrison, Har-rison, Helen Spafford, Nathalie Oakley and Bill Burt. Mrs. Mary Bird will be hostess host-ess to members of the Jovality club at her home Friday evening. eve-ning. All members are urged to be present. Mr. and Mrs. J. X. Gardner and son Dougall X., spent Monday in Delta. Among the recent parties given for Miss Helen Tew of Mapleton, Maple-ton, who is leaving in the near future with her family on a mission mis-sion to the central states, was that given by Mrs. Burt Taylor at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Parley Perry at Mapleton. Maple-ton. The social was held in the form of a handkerchief shower and many other lovely gifts were received. The time was pleasantly spent with "cootie," with prizes awarded the winners. A delicious luncheon was served by the hostesses assisted by her mother. Ther were in attendance Mary Ann Hanson, Irene Jensen, Jen-sen, Grace Holley, Naomi Harmer, Har-mer, Bernice Johnson, Bernice Palfreyman, Martha Bird, Vera Wheeler, Verona Condie, Louise Patrick, Mrs. Mae Miller, Mrs. Mary Sanford, Mrs. LaRee Shell.
