Show PIONEER DAY CELEBRATION DRAWS MANY A large group of local people and some visitors attended the program of events sponsored by the M. I. A. here on July 24. Children especially enjoyed the sports on the park during the forenoon, when numerous prizes were awal'ded to the winners of races and other competitive sports. The program given by the D. U. P. at the Third ward was interesting in-teresting and enjoyable. Cecil E. McGavin, Spanish Fork seminayr teacher gave a talk on the early pioneers, enumerating their hardships hard-ships and other phases of their life. Music was furnished by Mrs. Millie Schofield of Spanish Fork and Mrs. W. J. Harris of Provo who gave several piano accordion numbers. Mrs. Ellen Anderson gave vocal solos as did Miss Verla Whiting of Mapleton. Miss Virginia Vir-ginia Rivers entertained with read- inoQ Cnmmiinitv sinpnnF was un- der the direction of Mrs. Mary Weight, Captain Lela Sumsion of Camp Aaron Johnson was in charge. During the program a candy shower was held on t'he park for the children and after the program pro-gram the adults enjoyed softball -gomes and other sports. - The day's entertainment closed with a concert by the high school band. During the day large groups were conducted throug'h the relic hall by D. U. P. members. |
