Show MRS. CRANDALL SERVICES HELD Mrs. Mary Louisa Metcalf Cran-dall, Cran-dall, 84, pioneer of this city, and widow of Myron E. Crandall, Sr., Black Hawk Indian war veteran and former president of the Springville Canning company, died Sunday following three days' ill- j ness, at the family residence, ! South Main street. Mrs. Crandall, familiarly known throughout the community as "Aunt Lida," was born here, September Sep-tember 5, 1851, a daughter of Levi G. and Mellesa J. Guyman Metcalf. Met-calf. Her father, one of the first settlers in this community, was killed in 1858, suposedly by Mexicans Mexi-cans for the gold he was carrying on a trip to Mexico. . She was married November 29, 1861t in the Endowment house, Salt Lake City. Mrs. Crandall, with her husband, pioneered settlements set-tlements in Cache and Millard ! counties. She also accompanied nim on many early railroad contracting con-tracting enterprises. She was an officer in the first Primary organization or-ganization in this city. She took an active part in Relief society work and her home hasbeen open to numerous L. D. S converts from England. Mrs. Crandall, especially active and a,lert for her years, was an honorary member of the local camp of Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Pio-neers. She was honored as Springville's Spring-ville's "pioneer queen," at the state Black ' Hawk encampment here in 1934. On her eighty-second birthday, she received a "Timp stick" for being the oldest lady in attendance at the Timpanogos hike program. She was the mother of ten children, chil-dren, five of whom survive as follows: fol-lows: Earl Crandall, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Clara Carlisle, Logan; Paul G. Crandall, Provo; Mrs. Erma Gudmundsen, Springville; Mrs. Bertha Woodward, Franklin, Frank-lin, Idaho; 23 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; a Brother, Levi Gregory Metcalf, Richfield, Idaho. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon, at the Second ward chapel, under the direction of the Second ward bishopric. Burial was in the Evergreen Ever-green cemetery, under the direction direc-tion of Claudin Funeral home. |
