Show Mapleton had as their week end I guests, Dr. Quinn Whiting and I Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Nielson of . Salt Lake City. Mrs. M. W. Bird was hostess , at an interesting meeting of the Home Culture club at her home last Friday afternoon. An especial- ! ly enjoyable as well as interesting and educational paper on "International "Inter-national Relationship," given by Mrs. Milan R. Straw, was a feature fea-ture of the afternoon's program. Mrs. Reed Straw and Mrs. Emma Brailsf ord entertained with a vocal duet, accompanied by Mrs. Mary Bird and members responded to roll call with a current event. A tasty lunch was served by the hostess to approximately 30 members mem-bers and guests, the latter including in-cluding Mrs. George Anderson and Mrs. D. P. Brinton, besides those on the program. Entre Nou club members were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Bradford at their home in Maple-ton Maple-ton last Monday night. Cards featured fea-tured the occasion with high score prize won toy Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Thorpe. A delicious luncheon lunch-eon was served early in the evening eve-ning to the following: Mr. and Mrs. Leon Bird, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Conover, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Maycock, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Bird, Mr. and Mrs. Howard How-ard Thorpe, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Thorpe. The Boosters club of the high school entertained at a very de-lig'htful de-lig'htful party on Saturday night, at the home of Miss Edna Nielson. Niel-son. A feature of the entertainment entertain-ment was a book review given by Mrs. Mae Huntington, which was especially enjoyed by the girls. A dainty lunch also was enjoyed by all. Mrs. Adelia McPherson was hostess to members of the Old Friends club Friday evening at her home. Progressive 500 was played with prizes for the games going to Mrs. Leola Ewing, and Mrs. Blanch Tipton. A tasty lunch was served by the hostess to 11 club members and Mrs. Catherine Cather-ine Russell, as a special guest. The Springville and Spanish Fork telephone operators enjoyed a party last Saturday night. Following Fol-lowing attendance at a show in Provo, the group motored to the Haase cafe, for a delicious chicken chick-en dinner. Grooms, and nearly thirty people attended. During the evening, a delightful program was rendered with vocal solos by Mrs. Charles Frank and Mrs. Bill Hliuiehard and a reading by Mrs. I'lric Kuehl. Mrs. D. B. Welch gave n lovely tribute to Dr. Ensign En-sign who responded with a short talk of appreciation. Pie was presented with a number of gifts in appreciation for his work here. Concluding the party a dainty luncheon was served, under the direction of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. 1 I'yell, acting host, and hostess. I Republican ladies of Springville j under I lie direction of Mrs. C. G Salisbury, precinct chairwoman, gave n tea last Thursday afternoon, after-noon, at the Valley Tavern. The entertaining rooms were beautifully beauti-fully decorated with autumn flowers flow-ers and a delightful program was given during the meeting. A large group of local women and a number num-ber from out-of-town attended. Members of the Ladies' Literary 1 club were entertained Thursday night at the home of Mrs. Wm. H. Hrown. All are asked to 'meet at 6:45 p. m., at the Third ward chapel. Miss Carol Bird of Salt Lake City spent the past week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Bird in Springville. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Condie and daughter Ruth, accompanied Vernon Ver-non Condie as far as Evanston, Wyo., on his return to Afton, Wyo., last Sunday, Vernon had been here having his eye treated after an accident in Afton. ' Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Clyde, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Clyde and Mrs. C. F. Packard went to Logan early this week to visit Mr. and Mrs. George D. Clyde, Mr. Clyde being confined con-fined to the hospital with a serious seri-ous illness. Mrs. Packard will spend several days in Logan: president: Evelyn Harrison, secretary-treasurer; Vivian Smith, reporter and Betty Miller, cheer and song leader. Complimentary to Miss Ethel Crandall, daughter of Mrs. Zina Crandall of this city who was wed the past week to Richard Rothwell of Arco, Idaho, a shower show-er was given at the home of Miss Mary Boyer on Wednesday night. The guest of honor received a number of lovely gifts from her friends and relatives attending. The evening's entertainment enjoyed en-joyed by all was concluded with a tasty lunch. Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Metcalf who have been visitmg the former's for-mer's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Metcalf have returned to their home in Redland, Cal. They were guests of honor at an oyster supper given by relatives and friends Thursday night, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Bird. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Groes-beck Groes-beck have returned to their home in Los Angeles, Cali'f., following three weeks delightful visit with relatves and friends n Springville. Mrs. Groesbeck was the former Ilene Hutchngs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. West Hutchings of this city. They are residing in Los Angeles, the past eight, years. Members of the Current Study club were entertained at a cleverly arranged and enjoyable Hollowe'en party last Monday night, at the home of Mis Eleanor Matley in Spanish Fork. Other hostesses were Miss Prudence Wride, Miss Bertha Beamson, Miss Faye Bearnson, Miss Elda Hansen. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Carpenter Carpen-ter of this city, announce the engagement en-gagement of their daughter, Miss Gretchen Greenlee, to Joseph M. Ferrin of Salt Lake City, the marriage mar-riage to take place in the Salt Lake temple on November 26. A reception for the young couple is being planned following their marriage, at the Hyrum Jensen residence on Highland Drive, on the evening of November 26. Miss Greenlee, a former graduate grad-uate of the Springville high school, is also a graduate of a .Salt Lake business college. Palfreyman, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Palfrey-man Palfrey-man of Springville, is announced by Mrs. Marilla Kelly of Springville, aunt of the bride-elect. November 23 has been set as the date of marriage, mar-riage, the nuptials to be held at the Kelly home. A reception will be tendered the same evening at the Springville Fourth ward hall. Miss Hadley is a graduate of the L. D. S. School of Nursing in Salt Lake City, and has been employed at the Medical Building hospital in PrcJo. She is a member of the Dena Truse club. Mr. Palfreyman formerly attended the A. C. and the B. Y. U., and was a member of Sigma Nu at the Logan college. for members of the LaValate club of Provo. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Rowland have returned to Springville to spend the winter after several months at Cedar. City, where Mr. Rowland has been employed on road construction con-struction work. Neill was hostess to members of the Alpha Beta club at her home last Friday afternoon. A feature of the program was a paper on, 'The Responsibility of Citizenship," given by C. G. Salisbury Salis-bury and which was especially timely and thought provoking. Elden Richardson accompanied by his sister, Miss Cleo Richardson, entertained with two vocal solos, "I Heard A Thrush At Eve" and "Imp of Dream," and Jimmie Neill also gave a vocal solo, "I Have a Pocketful of Dreams," accompanied ac-companied by Miss Richardson.
