Show ALL COUNTY OFFICIALS RE-ELECTED Complete favor for the present Democratic regime in Utah county and the state was indicated today as final returns showed Democrats continuing to pile up big leads for every post voted on in the general election in the county yesterday. Carries 7 Districts President Franklin S. Harris, center of the Republican drive and candidate for U. S. senfcttor, could gain victory in only seven of Provo's 19 districts, as the B. Y. U. head went down to defeat by an unofficial count of 9907 to 7566 at the hands of the incumbent incum-bent Senator Elbert D. Thomas. Provo's Congressman J. Will Robinson swamped his Republican opponent. Dean F. Brayton, Salt Lake City attorney, by a tally of 11,204 to 6,129 in the county, taking tak-ing every district in Provo. Democratic Demo-cratic Judge Roger I. McDonough of Salt Lake City downed the incumbent in-cumbent Supreme Court Justice William H. Folland by 10,613 to 6.648. Win Two To One Democratic state senatorial candidates can-didates won by two to one margins: mar-gins: Francis S. Lundell, Benjamin, Benja-min, and A. O. Ellett, Spanish Fork, gained votes of 10,571 and 10,500, respectively, to eliminate Republicans Dr. N. C. Spalding, Provo, who received 6,615, and S. I Goodwin of Lehi, who netted 6,421 votes Lundell is a state representative; Ellett i$ the Democratic county chairman. ' Elleft completely took Spanish Fork, his home city, and Benjamin Benja-min showed high favor for Lundell. Lun-dell. Dr. Spalding could only manage to place ahead in six Provo districts, while Goodwin won two and lost two in Lehi. Sirs. Jacob Elected In the third district Mrs. Maude B. Jacob of Provo, was returned over her rival, H. G. Blumenthal, Provo, by a 2,307 to 1,643 count. Selvoy J. Boyer of Springville defeated de-feated Victor Leifsen of Spanish Fork by 2,014 to 1,253, . for the fourth's post. In the fifth, Glen E. Davis of Genola gained 1,785 to down Mayor Philo C. Wight-man, Wight-man, Payson, with 1,093. Incumbents Returned Incumbents came through to a man in the county posts. Sylvan W. Clark of Lehi routed Alfred C. Johnson of Provo, even in the latter's home city, where but a single district accorded Johnson favor, to win the four-year county commissioner post. Clark received receiv-ed 11, 222 to 5,961 for Johnson. Bishop R. J. Murdock of Provo won the two-year county commissioner commis-sioner post he was appointed to recently, defeating the Republican Robert Ashby of American Fork, 11,105 to 6.185. County Clerk C. A. Grant of American Fork won easily over T. F. Kirkham, Lehi, 11,043 to 6,321. County Auditor Marcel lus Nielson Niel-son of Mapleton repulsed his opponent, op-ponent, . Howard A. Thorn of Springville, by a margin of 10,954 to 6,481. Nielson, appointed to fill the vacancy left by resigna- tion of E. Booth Sorenson of Lehi, not only won Mapleton but beat Thorn in every Springville district. dis-trict. Jensen Leads Tickets Most popular candidate on the ticket, though, was Bishop Andrew An-drew Jensen of Provo, county treasurer, who held the highest total to-tal and widest winning margin. Jensen easily staved off the attack of Lindsay B. Snell of Spanish Fork, winning in all but five of the 73 districts to amass a total of 11,491 to 5,894 for Snell. Deputy Sheriff John S. Evans of Lehi surpasses J. D. Boyd, ex-rheriff, ex-rheriff, Provo, in the sheriff's race, gaining 10,851 to 6,531 for Boyd. Boyd managed to win in only six of his 19 home districts. Backed solidly by Springville, his home town, Arnold C. Roylance, Roy-lance, county attorney, blasted J. Albert Page, Pleasant Grove, winning win-ning even the latter's city with a total of 11,328 to 5.955. County Recorder Eloise P. Fillmore, Fill-more, Payson, defeated Alta Jus-tesen Jus-tesen Faux of Provo, 10,983 to 6.328. County Assessor Lawrence M. Atwood of Pleasant Grove easily eas-ily surpassed George E. Clark, Jr., Alpine Republican, by a margin of 11,230 to 6,032. Andrew R. Shelton of Provo again won election as county surveyor sur-veyor over his Republican rival, Edward B. Jones, Lehi, even defeating de-feating the latter in his own town camp. Shelton had 11,021 to 6,067 for Jones. |
