Show SOCIETY NtVS I The last meeting of the Second Sec-ond ward Gleaner and Senior girls was held Tuesday evening at the home of Miss Marian Miner. Hostesses Host-esses were Misses Lois and Marie Rigtrup, Gladys Thompson, Lula Hatch and Lois Hiorth. The party Mr. and Mrs. Charles Carpenter of this city announce the marriage mar-riage of their daughter Madeline Greenlee, to Harold Baum, son of Mrs. Elizabeth Baum of Prbvo, which took place at Murray, Tuesday, Tues-day, August 25, with Bishop. K. Rasmussen of that city officiating. The ceremony was performed in the presence of the bride's mother, moth-er, Mrs. Carpter and sister, Miss Gretchen Greenlee. Miss Gretchen Greenlee who is employed as stenographer in the state tax commission office in Salt Lake City, is spending her Vacation with her family here. The Alpha Beta club will entertain enter-tain at a social September 4 at the home of . Mrs. Ella Miner, in the form of a silver tea, it being the twenty-fifth anniversady of the organization of the club. Mrs. Mary Bird and Mrs. Almina Men-rtenhall, Men-rtenhall, charter members of the club will be special guests on the occasion. Misa Dona Nish of Logan spent a few days of the past week with Misses Lucille and Barbara San-ford. San-ford. ' Elroy Fehr of Nephi was also a guest of Dee Sanford this i week. was cleverly arranged to represent repre-sent the recent inlernationa.1 Olympic games and an enjoyable time was spent by everyone. The various teams were named for local places and the Hobble Creek group were judged the winners and received a loving cup of assorted as-sorted candies. Boyer, Harriet Miner, Madelyn Harrison, Charlotte Hall, Verlene Buchanan and Afton Bailey, the latter three being guests. Mr. and Mrs'. Daniel Witney of this city, announce the engagement engage-ment of their daughter Ruth," to Howard Sumsion, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willis Sumsion also of this city, the marriage to take place in the near future. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Condie and daughters Verona and Ruth have just returned from an enjoyable trip to Yellowstone National park and the Teton basin. En route they visited at Afton, Wyoming, with Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Condie. While at the latter city Mr. Condie Con-die and daughters enjoyed an airplane air-plane ride over that vicinity. They report that both Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Condie, former residents of this city, will be employed as teachers in the high school there. ' Mrs. Mae Hatfield entertained at a social and dinner at her Some Tuesday for Mrs.. Bess Wilcox Wil-cox who is visiting here from Boulder City, Nev. Mrs. Nettie Mangelson and daughter Lois of Levan. Mrs. B. Glazier and Mrs. Misses Beth and Gene Harmer of Payson are spending the week with relatives and friends here. A number of friends of high school days entertained at ,a party at Balsam park, Tuesday night in the form of a supper and social so-cial get-to-gether, the affair being be-ing voted to be held annually. In attendance were Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Packard of Provo, Mr. 'and Mrs. A. G. Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Knudsen of Spanish Fork, N. K. Nielson of Salt Lake City, Miss Effie Kelsey, Miss Naomi Deal and Mrs. Ella D. Strain of Los Angeles, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. J. X. Gardner, Miss Arlene Men-denhall, Men-denhall, Mrs.' Mary M. Oakes, Mrs. Merrell Carter of Los Angeles, An-geles, Calif., Mrs. Clara White of Ogden, Mrs. Zella Argyle of Og-den, Og-den, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Boyer Flora Maiben and Mrs. Rhoda Hatfield of this city. ( Complimentary to Miss Lucille Sanford who will leave soon on a m.'ssion, Mrs. A. G. Peterson, Mrs. Ronald Beardall and Mrs. H. G. 'ihorpe entertained at a party Friday night at the Beardall home in the form of a missionary shower. Many lovely gifts were received. The entertainment featured, feat-ured, games and a dainty lunch, with about 25 friends and relatives rela-tives in attendance. . 1 Carl Peterson who will leave soon on a mission was honored with a party Saturday night at the home of Mrs. George Petersen.- A delightful time was spent with games and social chat followed fol-lowed by a tasty lunch. A number of nice gifts were received by the guest of honor. Mrs. Nettie Mangelson and daughter Lois and two sons, Golden Gold-en and Romaine of Levan, are visiting a few days this week with Mrs. Mae Hatfield and other relatives here. Mrs. Hatfield has just returned from a visit at Levan. Le-van. Members of the S. T. Club will and Mr. and Mrs. ri. T. Reynolds. Reyn-olds. Members of the Ladies' Literary club and their partners will be entertained at a party at Balsam park, Friday evening beginning at 5:30 p. m. Mrs. Emma Jacob-sen, Jacob-sen, Mrs. Jessie Dalton, Mrs. Elizabeth Eliz-abeth Salisbury and Mrs. Mae Groesbeck are hostesses. Mrs. Peter Nielson of this city has as her guest her father, Mr. Snow from Richfield. ' i Mrs. Merrell Carter of California Califor-nia and Mrs. Clara White of Ogden Og-den are visiting their sister, Mrs.. A. G. Johnson and husband here this week. Mrs. Daniel Witney entertained at a quilting at her home on Thursday of last week. A tasty lunch also featured . the affair with the following present: Mrs. P. Frank Bringhurst, Mrs. May Bird, Mrs. Eugene Bird, Mrs. Norma Strong, Mrs. Ed Anthon, Mrs. Gene Pierce, and Mrs. Mae Childrs. Miss Arlene Mendenhall, Mrs. Mary M. Oakes. Miss Naomi Deal and Mrs. Ella D. Strain, the latter lat-ter two of California were dinner be entertained at the home of Mrs. Esther Johnson Thursday night, beginning at 8 o'clock. Lela Peterson Lisonbee spent the past ten days at Bryce, Zion and the Grand canyons with a geology class from the University of Utah, under , the direction of Professor Schneider. The climax cf the trip came with a forty-minute aeroplane trip over the Grand canyon where its massiveness and color grandeur and life history was unfolded to view. At Zions the party was guided through the Narrows by Kenneth Weight, a native son of this city, who is stationed at the canyon for the summer. I guests of Mrs. Richard Condie on Saturday evening. A number of girl friends accompanied accom-panied by Mrs. Helen Boyer are spending the remainder of the ! week at Vivian park. Provo canyon. can-yon. The group includes LaJune Whitney, Merle Fletcher; Pricella Gudmundsen, Edna Bartholomew, Annie Fox. Mr. and Mrs. Emmett K. Clark and three children of New York City, are expected to arrive here this week to visit Mr. Clark's father, James Clark and other relatives and friends. It will be the first visit Mr. Clark has made to his home town in 18 years. |
