Mrs. Melvu Smith of Salt Lake City spent several days of the past week with her father Charles Sanford and other relatives and friends in Springville. Miss Beth Llewellyn of Rupert, Idaho, is spending the summer with her grandmother, Mrs. Kheuamia Weight and aunt, Mrs. Mac Johnson and other relatives here. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Olscn spent several days of the past week with their son J. W. Olsen, Jr., at Teton National park, Jackson Hole, Wyo. They acompanied a group of relatives from Salt Lake City on the trip and visited a number of interesting places in the vicinity of Jackson Hole. A large group of Springville people attended the pre-hikc program pro-gram at Aspen Grove, Provo canyon can-yon Friday night. Many also took the hike on Saturday. Mir. and Mrs. Reed Clements and four children are spending a few clays vacation with Mrs. Clements' brother. Lew Averett and family in Salt Lake City. Miss .Dama Grant, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Grant and a student of Mrs. Cartherine B. Pardoe of the B. Y. U. speech department, de-partment, entertained with reading read-ing the one-act play, "The Birthday Birth-day of the Infanta," Wednesday evening, at the concluding meeting meet-ing of the B. Y. U. Mask club, in the Little theater, Provo. Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Weight and son Aldous spent a few days of the past week at Snow lake in southern Utah. Miss Merlyn Mendenhall spent her vacation last week in Magna, with friends and relatives. Complimetary to Elliott Cameron Cam-eron who was visiting here from Panguitch, a number of friends Thursday nipht entertained at a party at the home of Miss LaRhea Nielson. Mr. and Mrs. John L. Savage of this city, announce the marriage mar-riage of their daughter, Hazel Arlene, to William Russell Clyde, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Clyde also of Springville, which took place June 24, at Tooele. Miss Savage is a graduate of the Springville high sc'hool. Mr. Clyde also graduated from the local high school and was a former student of New Mexico Military Institute at Roswell, N. M. The couple are making their home for the present at Bryce canyon, where Mr. Clyde is employed. Mrs. Thelma Whittey of Oakland, Oak-land, Calif., is visiting her parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. William I. Noakes and other relatives and friends here. Mr. and Mrs. I. E. Clegg were among the Springville people who went to Ogden for the Pioneer Day celebration. Mr. and Mrs. Arch V." Coombs of Hershey, Neb., spent a ftw days of this week with the lat ter's sisters, Mrs. Arthur Bird and Mrs. Ralph Weight, and other relatives and friends in Springville. Spring-ville. They were on their return from a two weeks' tour of Yellowstone Yellow-stone nationalpark and the west coast. Mrs. G. D. Kennedy, another an-other sister, accompanied them from Salina and also visited relatives rela-tives here, during their stay. Mrs. Glenn Holt of this city, spent the week end with her husband hus-band at Logan. She was accompanied accom-panied by Miss Louise Long and Miss Ethel Johnson or Helper, who visited their grandfather, David Noakes, and other relatives there. Mr. and Mrs. Alma (Dick) Ha-fen Ha-fen and family have returned to their home in Los Angeles, following fol-lowing two weeks' visit with the former's brother, V. O. Hafen and family in this city. A group of friends surprised Miss LaRea Nielson at her home Members of the Elite club were delightfully entertained on Friday Fri-day evening at the home of Mrs. Cleonda Miner. A profusion of lovely summer flowers decorated the entertaining rooms. Early in the evening a tasty and attractive luncheon was served at small tables with covers arranged for Mrs. Alda Alleman, Mrs. Lela Nelson, Mrs. Bell Sumsion, Mrs. Delia Clark, Mrs. Flora Maiben, Mrs. Faye Snelson, Mrs. Crystal Poulsen, Mrs. Jennie Brown, Mrs. Almeda Evans, Mrs. Philda Fin-ley Fin-ley and Mrs. Coe Nelson, the latter lat-ter two being guests. High score prizes for the bridge games following fol-lowing luncheon went to Mrs. Almeda Evans and to Mrs. Bell Sumsion. The group planned a swimming party for their husbands hus-bands for next Friday evening at Park Ro-She. Mr. and Mrs. Michael Long spent1 the Pioneer day holidays in the vicinity of Mirror lake. Miss Ethel Johnson of Helper, is visiting at the home of Miss Louise Long this week. An especially enjoyable time was spent by the First Ward Sunday school officers and teachers teach-ers last Friday evening, when they were entertained with a swimming party at Arrowhead resort. re-sort. A delicipus pot-luck supper followed the swim. In attendance at the party wfre about forty five officers, teachers and their partners. Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Hall and daughter, Ruth, accompanied by Mrs. Hall's sister, Mrs. Lottie Hall of Lorenzo, Idaho, are spending spend-ing this week at Yellowstone national park. Dr. and Mrs. G. W. Anderson and two children of Moab, were among the week end visitors in Springville, guests of Mrs, Hall's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Hall. Dr. Anderson returned to their home Monday, while Mrs. Anderson, Ander-son, the former lone Hall, will spend several days with relatives and friends here. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Oakley and their children left recently on a business trip to Colorado and the Middle West. ' Among the delightful parties of the past week was the canyon outing for members of the Ladies' Literary club and their husbands, held Saturday night, at Birches' camp, Hobble Creek canyon. The group enjoyed a sumptuous supper sup-per served at one long table, under the direction of the club officers, Mrs. Elizabeth Salisbury, Mrs. Helen Crandall and Mrs. 'Mercedes Anderson. Later, singing, stories and social c'hat were enjoyed around a huge bonfire. The following fol-lowing club members and guests attended: Mr. and Mrs. G. Miss Aileen Bernardi has returned re-turned to her home in Helper following fol-lowing a four weeks' visit with Miss Louise Long at the home of her parents, Mr, and Mrs. Michael Long. Miss Phylis Overlade of Helper ' is spending two weeks with Miss Louise Childs in Springville. Mrs. Almira Lowe has just returned re-turned from a week's visit with her son, Emil and family at Sandy and also with her grandchildren in Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Pennington and daughters Enid, Venice, and Joan returned Monday night from a three-days' vacation trip. They went to Logandale, Nev.t where they spent a s'hort time with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Chad-bum Chad-bum and family, former Springville Spring-ville residents. From there they went to Boulder dam and to Zion and Bryce canyons. |
